Installing SolarEdge
What are the benefits of SolarEdge inverters and optimisers?
Each solar panel in a PV system has an individual maximum power point. A difference between panels can introduce power losses and can lead to the entire system underperforming over time.
With traditional inverters, the weakest panel reduces the performance of all the panels. With SolarEdge, each panel is connected to a power optimiser, eliminating power losses and generating the maximum energy possible. SolarEdge is particularly useful for homes with oddly shaped roofs, shading issues or a variety of roof orientations.
With traditional string inverters, the output energy of your system is affected by the weakest operating Solar panel. This is because they are all directly interlinked. However, when using a SolarEdge inverter in your solar panel system, each panel works independently. As a result, shading, dirt, or leaves on a single panel, will not impact the performance of the entire system. This means more power can be generated, resulting in more savings on your electricity bill.
Compared to traditional string inverters, SolarEdge inverters are more cost-effective, reliable, efficient and have a record-breaking 99% efficiency. In comparison, most string inverters have an efficiency of 93-96%. As a result, your solar panel system will generate more energy, leading to a quicker financial return.
Adding a solar battery to your solar panel system couldn’t be simpler with SolarEdge. The inverters and power optimisers are compatible with any AC coupled battery. This means you can upgrade your Solar PV system with a battery, such as the Growatt 6.5kWh at any time. With the new release of the SolarEdge Energy Bank adding energy storage to your system couldn’t be simpler.
What’s more, a SolarEdge system is also suitable for a solar-compatible EV charger such as the Zappi. Overall, through a SolarEdge system, it is easy to keep the majority of the green energy you produce at home.
With a SolarEdge system, you can produce more power, due to its design flexibility. You are no longer limited by panels in partially shaded areas, nor arrays in multiple orientations or panel mismatching. This design flexibility means you can maximise your PV power. Furthermore, you can choose a layout to suit your desired aesthetics and energy needs.
SolarEdge comes with its own monitoring platform. This means you can access your solar systems real-time data 24/7. This includes your systems technical and financial performances. For example, individual panel performance, battery charge level, and energy consumption. This doesn’t require any extra hardware and comes already integrated into your SolarEdge products. Essentially, this means any faults or failures are easier to detect. Furthermore, you will also receive automatic system alerts, which can be troubleshot remotely. This monitoring platform is free to use for 25 years. The same length as your warranty for SolarEdge products.
SolarEdge offers advanced safety features. For instance, their Inverters can automatically disconnect high DC currents through your cabling. This reduces risk levels in cases of emergency and maintenance. In addition, SolarEdge offers arc detection and module-level shutdown. These features can prevent possible fire risks.
A SolarEdge system is easier to maintain. Firstly, because it has the capability to identify faults and send automated alerts to your solar panel installers. Secondly, SolarEdge monitoring can pinpoint panel failures, reducing the time it takes to investigate system issues. This leads to both a reduced maintenance cost and downtime, allowing for easier rectification and more solar energy.
Furthermore, if a solar panel ever needs replacing, with SolarEdge you have the freedom to choose any panel you like, as you can mix and match.
Whilst most string inverters come with a 5-10 year warranty, SolarEdge inverters come with a leading 12-year warranty. While their power optimisers come with a 25-year warranty. One of the many reasons why the team here at Dorset Electrical Solutions highly recommends SolarEdge products.
