Why CCTV pays off

Five ways a system protects your business

Protects against burglary

Visible cameras are a powerful deterrent — intruders are far less likely to target a property they know is recorded.

Prevents employee theft

A culture of accountability and transparency, with the presence of cameras discouraging dishonest practices.

Deters shoplifting

Real-time monitoring lets staff spot and address suspicious behaviour, with footage that stands up as evidence.

24/7 peace of mind

Continuous surveillance you can check any time from your phone — instant awareness of anything unusual.

Lowers vandalism risk

Knowing an area is monitored discourages criminal damage — protecting your premises and your bottom line.

What CCTV installation costs in Dorset

There is no single price for a CCTV system, because no two properties are the same. What you pay comes down to a handful of things: how many cameras you need and where they go, whether you choose IP or analogue, the resolution (a 4K camera that can read a number plate costs more than a basic HD one), how far the cabling has to run, and how much recording storage you want. High mounting points that need access equipment, night-vision and pan-tilt-zoom cameras, and remote-viewing setup all play a part too. Rather than guess, we survey the property first and give you a single fixed price with everything itemised, so there are no surprises on the day.

Wired or wireless?

Wired systems (a single Cat6 cable per camera, powered over the same lead) are the most reliable and the usual choice for a permanent install. Wireless cameras have their place for outbuildings or listed properties where cabling is difficult, but they depend on a strong signal and still need power. We will tell you honestly which suits your property.

Types of CCTV camera explained

Choosing the right camera for each position matters more than simply buying the highest specification. The four we fit most often:

  • Dome cameras — discreet and vandal-resistant, ideal for shopfronts, receptions and communal areas.
  • Bullet cameras — visible and directional, a strong deterrent for driveways, car parks and perimeters.
  • Turret cameras — a versatile all-rounder with excellent night vision and less glare than a dome.
  • PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras — motorised cameras that sweep a large area and zoom in on detail, suited to yards, forecourts and larger commercial sites.

Business CCTV and the law

If you run CCTV at your business you have a few legal responsibilities, and they are simpler than they sound. You will usually need to pay the ICO’s annual data protection fee, display clear signage telling people they are being recorded, keep footage only as long as you genuinely need it, and position cameras so they cover your own property rather than a neighbour’s. We set systems up with all of this in mind and point you to the right guidance for your premises.
